JPMorgan Chase’s Continued Commitment to Greater Paris

The company is supporting Les Compagnons to train apprentices in the skills necessary to rebuild Notre-Dame.

We all watched in disbelief at the catastrophic fire that engulfed Notre-Dame cathedral, the 850-year-old masterpiece in the heart of Paris.

One of the challenges of rebuilding will be finding the unique and sometimes forgotten skills that were involved in building it in the first place. In response to this and as part of our commitment to create economic opportunity for more people in Greater Paris, we will expand our work and partnership with skills-training organization Les Compagnons du Devoir through an additional 1 million euros ($1.1 million). Les Compagnons trains apprentices in some of the exact skills – carpentry, glassmaking, stonecutting – necessary to rebuild Notre-Dame, and amazingly, also has ties back to the original construction of the cathedral. Our partnership will continue to provide underserved residents with the necessary skills for in-demand local jobs, such as the rebuilding.

Our partnership with Les Compagnons du Devoir is long-standing, going back a number of years. In November, as part of AdvancingCities, JPMorgan Chase announced a $30 million commitment in Greater Paris to help economic growth benefit struggling communities. The announcement was made at a training center operated by Les Compagnons du Devoir.

It is these kinds of deep connections to our communities that inspire us to do more.
